Data Transmission Summary
Services that receive Student PII (names, IDs):
- Google Cloud (Firebase): Stores all platform data, encrypted at rest and in transit
- EdLight, PBC: Receives scanned student work for scoring as a subprocessor engaged by Precision Start. Schools contract with Precision Start only; Precision Start remains responsible to the school for this processing.
Services that receive only de-identified data:
- Anthropic Claude: Receives tier classifications, standard codes, misconception types, group counts, and educator-authored instructional free text. Direct identifier fields (student names, IDs) are kept out of prompts by design. An automated redaction layer additionally strips pattern-based PII from every request and, for group-context requests, redacts that group's student names from free text (best-effort).
Services that receive no student data:
- Vercel: Hosts the application; processes anonymous traffic data only
- Resend: Sends emails to teachers and administrators only
AI Training Restrictions
Anthropic commits, per its current API terms of service, that data submitted via its API is not used to train its models. This is contractual, not optional. For confirmation:
- Anthropic: Commercial Terms (Section 5)
Provider will notify schools immediately if any subprocessor changes its training data policy in a way that would affect the no-training commitment.
Subprocessor Changes
Provider commits to:
- Notify schools at least 30 days in advance before adding any new subprocessor with access to Student Data
- Allow schools to object to a new subprocessor; if the objection cannot be resolved, the school may terminate the service agreement
- Maintain this list as authoritative and update it within 7 days of any subprocessor change
